REFLECTION
THESIS FILM
Luna, is a college student who struggles with body-image issues. She is encouraged by her roommate to get out of her comfort zone and attend a party. Luna’s experience at the party pushes her over the edge and forces her to finally acknowledge her problem.
REFLECTION was inspired by my own life experience with body image issues. This topic is not something talked about a lot in the Latinx community but it affects a lot of people in and outside of the community. I felt passionate about this project because it gives people the opportunity to see a Latin woman being portrayed as something other than the stereotype. We rarely get to see Latin women in this context and I wanted to open up a dialogue about this issue by telling the story of Luna. I hope people, regardless of race, gender, status, etc. watch Luna’s story, relate to her, and feel comfort in the fact that they are not alone. Recovery is a hard and long process and there is no perfect way to overcome body image issues/disorders. This project has personally helped me in my own journey and has given me a form of closure from a time in my life when I felt the same way Luna did.
This short film is currently in post production and will be submitted to film festivals in 2021.
